My computer (running Windows XP Home) was hit by a worm,
and I eventually had to reinstall the OS. I also had to
reinstall my Office 2000 pack and now when I run up Word
it goes through the preparing to install/configure
routine before it actually starts. It hasn't done this
before whenever I've had to reinstall. What's happened
this time?

I am having the almost the same problem.  I recently
installed XP Professional on a newly formatted disk.  I
installed Office 2000 and all of the updates for it off
the web.

Now, when any user, other than those with administrator
access, run Word, the Windows installer starts up, looks
for the installation disks, and fails to find it (even
though I tried putting it the CD in the drive).  Once the
error is acknowledged, Word starts up.

A similar problem occurs when those same users try to
access a web page using IE.  The installer starts up, it
fails, then the page is displayed.  This happens for many
web sites.

Very annoying.

Please help.
