hi

i am running windows XP Pro, and office 2002.  i noticed
that my XP machine stopped shutting down since a week
ago.  i checked in task manager and winword.exe was still
running.  when i stop winword.exe, XP shuts down just
fine.  what could cause winword.exe to keep running even
if word and outlook are both closed?

thanks

I have dealt with some problems involving winword.exe
before but not this exact one. I have one suggestion that
you could try and wont hurt anything if it doesnt work.
Word has a default template that it loads, and it could be
corrupt. Its called "normal.dot". In my experience, often
times simply deleting this file and rebooting has taken
care of the errors. Do a file search for normal.dot, and
delete any and all that come up, then reboot. It will re-
create a "clean" version of that template automatically.
Good luck
