I upgraded my hard drive and installed Windows XP and
Windows Office 2000.  When I try to open a file in word
there is this loud grinding noise that comes from the
tower?  How can I get rid of noise?

Usually that noise is caused by hard drive issues, or a fan that is going
bad.  Seeing as it only happens when you click a word doc, it's probably
your hard drive.  Run diagnostics on it, chkdsk, and try to defrag it.

And if it is a fan, replace it immediately. This is an inexpensive part and
if it goes, it can take down your computer and trash your hard drive.

How can you check to see if it is a fan?

Open up the case and listen to see where the noise is coming from? Or ...
take it into a repair shop. If you do this, have them replace the fan even
if it is fine since the cost of replacement will be nominal next to the cost
of having them look.

I went through a GW Scan that showed no errors on my hard
drive. I also ran an Office Repair Disk.  No errors
showed.
