MS Word 2003 doesn't like Acrobat 5

Everytime I start MS Word 2003 I get a dialogue box telling me that I have an
old version of Acrobat that might have incompatibilities with MS Word 2003
and that I should upgrade to a new version.

I really don't want to lash out 600 $ to buy a new version of something that
works perfectly well. Questions:

1. Is there a workaround to stop the dialog box appearing?
2. Is this a way of increasing sales of Adobe Acrobat?

There's an update to the add-in that works - check Adobe's support web site.
