Cell Text Alignment Propagates Outside Table

In Word 2003, when I change the text alignment, center for example, in a cell
or selected group of cells in a table, the alignment propagates to the whole
document. If I perform a Ctl-Z once, the alignment reverts to the original
outside the cell or cells. The second Ctl-Z reverts the alignment in the cell
or cells.

Pretty dang annoying. How do I stop this?

Never mind. I had "Automatically Update" checked in the style format.
