MS Office Forum / Word / Tables / October 2004Repeat Table Title with Cont. or x of y for each Page
I know that I can create a repeating Table Title by adding an addional heading row at the top of the table (Table - Heading Rows Repeat), then losing the extra lines. However, how do I put some information on subsequent table pages that show that this table is continued from the current page. I would like to display x of y on each page of my long table, but I would be satisfied by just printing Cont on sibsequent pages. You may have to settle for a "continued" line unless you're willing to put the table in a separate section and use Page { PAGE } of { SECTIONPAGES } in the header. Even a "continued" notice is not that easy. The only proposal for doing this that looks likely to work (proposed by Terry Farrell; I haven't tested it) is to put "continued" in the heading row itself, then use an opaque text box or AutoShape anchored *outside* the heading row to cover it up on the first page. Sorry, but that does not work. This is a must for technical work with U.S Air Force customers. They are very strict in the ways you show table titles in the large tables that they need. I was hoping that Microsoft had fixed thie problem since I remember having it since about version 2 of MS Word. I know that WordPerfect lets you do this. Well, actually, I just tried it, and it does work for me. You have to make sure the AutoShape is wrapped In Front of Text and anchored to a paragraph in the row below the heading (you'll have to lock the anchor to that paragraph, then move the AutoShape into place).
