How can I make "Automatically resize to fit contents" not defaul

In Word 2003, I do not ever want tables to "Automatically resize to fit
contents." How can this be made the default for all new tables in all
documents

Unfortunately, it can't. I've tried, it can't be done.

You can store "basic tables" with the setting changed as AutoText entries
and insert these.

You can try programming a macro to replace InsertTable, that performs the
setting.

Other than that, there's really not anything you can do...
