I don't think so but I am not 100% sure. How do I find out if it is a
protected form?
All I did was to go to menu reading Table then insert and then table again.
Would appreciate any help you can give me on this simple yet frustrating
situation.
If you can insert a table, the document is not protected. And (contrary to
what Rhondaw says) you should be able to toggle table gridlines any time,
whether in a table or not; the setting is an environmental one and will
apply to all tables in the document and indeed any other documents opened
from that window. If you have inserted a default table (and haven't changed
the default Table AutoFormat), however, you *will* have borders. Pressing
Ctrl+Alt+U will remove them. But I'm still puzzled as to why the Gridlines
command should be disabled.

Suzanne
Thank you for your help. For a long time I have been reading your messages
in this board and have seen how helpful you have been. Today I am quite
excited to be able to share with you something I just found out.
I have windows xp (dont believe it is relevant to this discussion) and Excel
2000 and found out that the gridlines command do NOT really affect what is
printed or not. To control the printing or in my case not to print the
gridlines the following menu commands need to be followed
Table
Table Properties
Borders and Shading
Borders no fill
Page Border none
Shading no fill
This will make the gridline command read Hide gridlines
Now if I were to do the exact opposite then the gridline command will read
Show Gridlines
I dont know if I have been clear with this explanation but it works.
Once again thank you for your help

It would have been suggested from the outset that what you were seeing was
probably borders rather than gridlines if you had not presented the problem
as being that the Gridlines toggle on your table menu was disabled. If in
fact what you were seeing was that the command was Show Gridlines instead of
Hide Gridlines, we would have known that the problem had nothing to do with
gridlines. See http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/TblsFldsFms/Gridlines.htm and
http://home.zebra.net/~sbarnhill/HideGridlines.htm. If the application or
removal of borders affects the Gridlines command on your Table menu, then
something very bizarre is going on, since these should not be related in any
way.
OTOH, if this is a problem in Excel (as your latest post suggests), then
this Word NG is totally irrelevant, anyway.

Hi, I must say I'm in the same boat as L.T. I've always had trouble with the 'hide gridlines' and always have navigated my way back to the borders to get rid of the gridlines (having been away from this application for awhile, I found my way here). I really don't think L.T. is at fault for thinking the problem was with the gridline, as that is what it would seemingly be. I think it's a problem with the program, and there should at least be a default help question that responds to the question "do not print gridlines".
