Protect Check BOx Form Field

I have tried to protect the Check box form field while still allowing edits
on the rest of the text (drop down menus, text content...etc), but for some
reason its locking everything. I want to allow the FORM to be filled out
(Check marked) but also allow user to edit text, date, and drop down menus....
