Depends on your CD-writing software. Sounds like you have an auto-write CD
system; in which case display the folder in Windows Explorer, then drag the
file to your CD folder or icon.

I have no problems writeing files to cd on desktop, just unable to open file
again on the laptop useing word, tried to download word 2000 converter ,but
was informed that the laptop had a newer version so abandoned any changes .
The laptop is only one year old & the desktop about two so "word" should be
compatable between the two computers. No problem with most files spread
sheets ect just this particular .rtf !
Thanks for help Jezebel

The problem is specifically a result of using *Word* to write to the CD.
Trawl any Word forum, on this site or elsewhere, and you'll find literally
thousands of references to this problem, and the advice: NEVER NEVER NEVER
use Word to write directly to (or read from) a CD or floppy.
Unlike most apps, Word does not simply hold the document in memory then
write it out to file when you click Save. Its disk access is a continuing
stream of reads and writes to a temp file. 'Save' is only clean-up
operation, involving deleting the original file and renaming the temp file.
The file systems on CDs and floppies just can't cope with this.
