Hopefully I can explain this. In a "workgroup" environment on a server, I
know two people cannot access the same file at the same time, but is there
some way around this? We have a rolodex in Word. We want to be able to have
this document open all day & either one of us can make changes to it. Is
there some way we can do this? I did make a shortcut, but I don't believe
changes made to the shortcut were changing the original document.
TIA
No, there's no way to do this. Word is the wrong choice for data that
everyone works on all the time. There are plenty of rolodex system around
that DO solve this problem -- CRM applications, shared address books, etc;
even Access is not so bad. Don't waste time trying to reinvent the wheel.

Thanks I was afraid of that. Unfortunately I just work there & have no say
over which programs they use.
