Macros in Word 2003 with SP2

I'm having a devil of a time getting macros to work properly in Word 2003.
Here's the scenario. Customer is a law firm that uses macros extensively to
automate client addresses, pleadings, court addresses, etc. These are all
stored in a .dot "shared" macro file which is in a shared directory on one of
the office machines. I can go into Tools, Templates and Add-Ins, Global
Templates and Add-Ins, and add the template. It even stays checked now
between exit and restarts of Word. But whenever you try to Run a macro on the
list it gives a Visual Basic "Macros for this project have been disabled"
error message. I've already gone into Tools, Macro, Security and reduced the
security from High to Medium or even Low to no avail. I've also gone into
Trusted Publishers and check the box for "Trust all installed add-ins and
templates" and the box for "Trust access to Visual Basic Project" also to no
avail.

Note, this all works fine under Word 2002. Just going to Word 2003 has
thrown this all off.

I'm out of ideas and need some fresh thoughts.

Thx.

They should be using AutoText instead of macros. That said, make sure these
global templates are stored in the Word startup folder and not the Office
startup folder. The Office folder is not a trusted location.

Charles,

Thank you for your response, but this does not answer my question. These are
shared macros used by others in the office. How will they remain "shared" if
I copy them into each user's Word startup folder? Where is the Word startup
folder exactly? Can I just use a link to the shared .DOT file? These are
updated almost daily.

Thanks,
KW

Put them on a network drive.

On each users' login script you add an xcopy command or the equivalent to
copy it from the network location to the Word startup folder as set in each
user's Tools > Options > File Locations. It is wherever you put it. It can
be on the local computer or on the network but should be individual for each
user. If you put a link to the file on the network instead of copying the
file, when anyone has Word open you cannot edit the shared file. See
http://addbalance.com/word/movetotemplate.htm for step-by-step instructions
on moving / sharing / copying / backing-up customizations including
AutoText, AutoCorrect, keyboard assignments, toolbars, macros, etc.

I'm also getting the following error on some systems: "Macros for this
project have been disabled" whenever I try to run a macro from the list in
the shared template. Ideas?

On those systems the macro security needs to be set to trust installed
templates and add-ins.
