Date formats in merge fields

I am running a mail merge from Excel to Word including a series of
dates.  My dates are displayed as 19/07/2005 in Excel (UK format) but
in my merged Word document appear as 7/19/2005.  How can change the
format of my dates so that the correct format appears in my Word
document?
