Can I recover an MS Word file that I closed before saving?

I have a question. I was working on a file in MS Word 2000 and clicked to
close the file. When it asked if I wanted to save it, I said "no". Is there
any way at all to recover this file so I do not have to retype the document?
Could it be located ANYWHERE on my pc (like in a temp file or somewhere
else)? If you have any suggestions, please let me know

No, it's gone.  To try and save you from finding yourself in this position,
you are asked whether you want to save the document or not.  If you say no,
it means "NO"
