Good day:
I am creating a Disaster Recovery plan for a company. The company wants a
quick reference document and a more comprehensive detail document to refer to
for the details.
Hence I have the Disaster Recovery Document (quick and small) and the DR
Reference Document (detail and huge).
As is every document of this nature, it a living document (changes all the
time). Therefore, the page numbers in the index will be changing as well.
It was my bright idea to link the Index reference from the detail document
to the subject in the quick reference document. All is well except, every
time I regenerate the Index in the detail document, the links are broken.
Is there any way to link an Index reference to an external document?

Hi Linda

Take a look at this article. It deals with having a consolidated Table of
Contents and Index across multiple documents. Parts of it may address your
requirement.

Thank you so much. I thought of using a Master Doc TOC/Index but wasn't sure
how to do it; now I do.

It is interesting however, that all other reference tables (TOC, TOA...) are
linked to their prospective subjects and the Index is not. Further, it is
interesting that, when you DO create a link to an index item, the link is
immediately stripped when you regenerate the index. It just seems that it
would be so much easier if the Index worked similarly to the other reference
tables.

But.... that's just the way it is.

Thank you again.
