Currently using word 2000 - When I open a document that was created two
weeks ago with the appropriate date the document date changes to the
current date. Any suggestion as to why this happens.

Regards

Because the displayed date is the result of a {DATE} field.  You want
to use a {CREATEDATE} field.

Toggle the field to display the code and change as indicated.
