i really need to know the basics for word like the function keys

Hi,

create a new blank document.
Run this macro:

Sub test09876()
Application.ListCommands ListAllCommands:=True
End Sub

I often feel that way myself :-)

For function keys try displaying the function key toolbar ...

Tools > Customize > Toolbars tab
Check "Function Key Display" and press OK

You can then watch the toolbar as it changes in response to Ctrl, Alt,
and/or Shift to see what effect the function keys will have
