Is there a way to open an InfoPath document using Word?

If it's an XML file, yes, you can open it and view the raw
XML. The other file formats, such as *.xsn are actually
zipped files that contain additional information; these
cannot be opened in Word.

There is no way to open an InfoPath document in Word and
view it as you see it in InfoPath. To display the XML data
in a "more friendly manner" would require applying a
transform (*.xsl) to it.
