Well they would say that and to an extent they are correct. For some reason
known only to Microsoft, envelope print doesn't use the black cartridge but
uses instead a composite colour to make black. Changing the Envelope Address
and Envelope Return paragraph styles to Black from Auto *may* help. If not
you may have to resort to subterfuge and create a template for your
envelopes that uses a different paragraph style or the addressee and return
address information (or buy another HP printer ;) )
