The autotext doesn't work right in Word 2003.  We bought another 2003
package, and also did an update from the website, but it won't work
consistantly.  Sometimes it kicks in, but after a sentence or two, it stops
working again.  Did not
have this problem with 2000 version.  Is this a glitch???

Hi apecslave

What is it about AutoText that isn't working? That is, what steps are you
following, what do you expect to see happen, and what is happening?

I type a lot of legal descriptions... on my AutoText list, for example, I
have right-of-way.  When I type "righ", sometimes it gives me the suggestion
for "right-of-way", and sometimes it doesn't... most times it doesn't!  Word
Version 2000 never gave me problems with this.  It always prompted the
AutoText.  This version of Word has me stumped!  I've checked all of my
settings... even had our programmer check it out.  We thought after we ran
the update that it would correct the problem.  It was working fine, but when
I saved the document and started another, it stopped working again.  It acts
like a tempermental child and does it when IT feels like!!  LOL!

Hi apecslave

There are several rules that govern AutoTexts. Some relevant ones are:

1. AutoComplete relies on the first 4 characters of AutoTexts being unique.
So if two AutoTexts are available and they are named "Budget01" and
"Budget02" , then AutoComplete won't work with them.

2. The AutoTexts that are available at any one time are the aggregate of the
AutoTexts from (a) normal.dot, (b) the active document's attached template
and (c) any add-ins that are global templates and are listed and ticked at
Tools > Templates and Add-ins. (Note for the record that a document cannot
store an AutoText.)

So my guess is that sometimes you have open a document whose attached
template contains an AutoText with the same, or a similar name, as one in
your normal.dot or global templates.

I suggest you use Tools > Templates and Add-ins > Organizer to inspect what
AutoTexts are present in what templates, and delete and/or re-name where
appropriate.

Hope this helps.

If you are in fact referring to AutoCorrect rather than AutoText, the
root of the problem is probably that (a) the language setting
determines which set of AutoCorrect entries are in use and (b) the
language can change at the insertion point. See this article [which
fixes b, and then also a]:

No... I am referring to the AutoText.  Thanks for your suggestion though!
