Im using the Microsoft Office -Student and Teacher edition 2003. WORD should
have an upgrade or an option that expands the vocabulary. I am in the health
sciences and I don't like the fact that every other word I type is underlined
(because it isn't in WORD's vocabulary).

Perhaps it should be expanded to include Pig Latin also. Why don't you just
add your specialized words to a custom dictionary?

This is a completely inappropriate response. First of all, there are more
words in the medical lexicon than there are in the rest of the English
language, so merely adding them as they arise would be a never-ending task
(and the user would have to be very proficient at spelling, too). Secondly,
your smug attitude stinks. These responses come up in areas other than the
VBA Lounge, Bubba. Get over yourself.

Hey Greg was that kind of crack called for? If the OP had known that the dictionary could be edited, he wouldn't have posted to the group asking the question he asked, would he?.

The dictionary can be edited by opening Tools, Options, Spelling & Grammar, Dictionaries button, Edit. The dictionary will open as a Word document and you can add all the words you want.

Called for? I don't know. I didn't know that there was a crack police
either ;-)
I know the question has absolutely nothing to do with VBA so was posting it
here called for?

Perhaps "Can I add my own words to the Word dictionary" posted in the
Newusers group would have resulted in a different response.

Personally I think Word is expensive enough as it is so I don't think that
silly suggestions that if adopted (and this one wont' be) would result in
the implementation costs being passed on to all users jsut to please a few
is called for either. If I did, then I would suggests adding a igpay
atinlay ictionaryday losay.

I see this is an old post, so my reply may not be of much use.

I should think there would be 3rd-party, specialised, Word-format
dictionaries for sale. (Microsoft doesn't handle scientific issues well,
anyway, but I don't think they ever claim to, either.) And, the original
poster was obviously mistaken to address a VBA forum.

The pig Latin barb, however, is just plain stupid. I guess it's not as hard
to become an MVP as I'd once imagined.
