Export merge fields to excel

I am looking for code to export the name of the first instance of mail merge fields to a new excel doc.  In the alternative, creating a new doc with the field names would be a start.  

Also trying to figure out how to save that excel doc with the same name as the word doc that the fields were exported from just with a .xls.
