how do i create a bilingual table of contents

I am trying to create a table of contents in both english and french but when
i update the english one the french one updaes in english also

You need to create a separate set of styles for the two sets of headings,
e.g. Heading 1 for the English, and Heading 1 French for the French version
of the title

Then create the French Table of Contents by having the TOC field refer
(using the \t switch) to the French versions of the heading styles.
