Ensuring units are inches instead of points

In my office, I have several people who setup their MS Word 2003 to
show units as inches instead of points, but oftentimes it switched to
points.  Is there a way, maybe using the AutoOpen macro, to ensure a
file opens using inches instead of points?  Thanks.

If you're referring to the units that appear on the horizontal ruler,
see http://www.gmayor.com/Character_Units.htm.

If you're referring to measurements in dialogs, certain ones are
always converted to points by Word. For example, if you enter a
measurement in inches or centimeters (by including the abbreviation
'in' or 'cm' after the number) for the Space Before or Space After in
the Format > Paragraph dialog, the next time you open the dialog Word
will have converted it to the equivalent number of points.

We regularly use the Space Before and Space After fields in the Format
> Paragraph dialog.  I checked out the site you recommended below, and
I get the impression that I would need to do this with the VBA every
time.  Is there any way to stop this, to have it open up in Inches all
the time?  Could I put the code that is recommended for the immediate
window in VBA in an AutoOpen macro?  Thanks for your help.

The Web link code is a one stop correction for a bug that occasionally
causes the ruler to read in character units. It should not need to be run
each time.

The program should always open with the measurement settings configured in
tools > options (or Word Options). You can insert any measurement unit in
Word's dialog boxes as long as you make it clear which eg If you are using
centimeters to measure you could enter 1" in the dialog box to give an inch
of space.
If this preferred setting does not hold it is uaually an indication od
corruption in the Word data key in the registry.

Thanks Graham and Jay for you help.  I will pass all of this on at
work.

Dear Phrank,

I like to measure everthing in points.  It makes everthing seems so much bigger.  You do not want a macro that does this sort of nonsense.  VIVA LA POINTS!!!!!
