Does anyone know how to add a button or shortcut key to a macro after it has
been created.

It was possible in 2003.

Click on the Office 'Pizza' button, press the "Word Options" button at the
bottom, click on Customize in the left hand pane of the dialogue, press the
"Customize" button at the bottom, labeled keyboard shortcuts, and you should
then be on familiar ground.

More quickly, you can RIGHT click on the pizza or anywhere on the ribbon or
QAT (apart from empty space at the right hand end of the ribbon) and select
"Customize Quick Access Toolbar" and then  press the "Customize" button as
above.
