Resetting a TOC

We have a certain style developed for populating a TOC. Think of the document
that the style is used in as a book with many chapters and each chapter has a
TOC. I do not want to use the bookmark switch in my TOCs as many people
contribute different chapters and not very computer-saavy, and I know that
they would write over or delete the bookmarks within each chapter. Is there a
way that I can build into the field code that I want my TOC to include
Heading 1 that begins at "5" or "6", etc... I gues I'm asking is there a way
to "reset" a TOC?

Karen:

Perhaps you are thinking of having an overall TOC at the front of the book
and "chapter TOCs" at the front of each chapter.

I think the simplest way really is to bookmark the entire chapter and use
that to tell Word where to look for TOC-eligible styles. You can make each
chapter a separate section and select and bookmark the section pretty
automatically.

If you're the one who's assembling the chapters into the final book, you
sholdn't have too much trouble with the bookmarks. EVEN IF THEY GET TRASHED,
there are so few and it's so easy to recreate or refresh them, that it's
still the easiest way to go.

The only other way I can think of is to use TC fields, which are just as
occult to novice writers, and a lot more work to create.
