Hello all

What I'd like to do is remove bookmark marks in a document without removing
them from global Word.  I don't want to affect Tools, Options, View,
Bookmarks - which will enable/disable for Word as a whole.  I have made a
template which uses bookmarks and I don't want the bookmark marks to be
visible when a document based on the template is opened.  Hope this makes
sense.

Thanks for any feedback

Why don't you want to uncheck the Tools, Options, View, Bookmarks? As this is
exactly what you want to do to show/not show the Bookmark marks in the
document. Unchecking this does not affect the functionality of the Bookmarks
themselves, only turns off the grey square brackets.
Hope this helps

Hi Dean

The reason why is because I am giving a template to users.  I don't want
bookmark marks to display in documents created from the template, but if I
get the template to turn them off it will turn them off for all the users
documents.  I have to assume that some users may want to have the marks shown
by default, I know they can just go to Options and turn them on again, but
it's just to avoid the annoyance factor.

However, you're right, I'm probably over complicating things.  Thanks for
the advice.  I think I need a rest...

I would take comort in the fact that by default the Bookmark marks are not
shown, therefore if someone has them showing they know what they are and not
to interfere with them. (Probably/hopefully).

If you want a macro to do the no-show, then I would have a check for show
setting, then have the macro turn them off, then at end return system to the
previous setting.
How you do this? I have no idea.
But as you say maybe getting too complicated.
Have a good rest.
All the best
