Sharing Document templates over a network

Using word 2000 I have a document template called basemacros.dot stored in a
shared folder on a network drive. From this template I have created a number
of documents saved in rich text format and stored in the same folder. When
one of the documents is opened a public autoopen procedure stored in
basemacros.dot runs. I want the macro to run for all networked users when
they open one of the documents.

The problem I am having is that only the computer that originally created
the document can run the subroutine. When the documents are opened on another
computer they are based on normal.dot rather than basemacros.dot.

What is the reason for this and is there a workaround?
Thanks.
