word help

I cannot open a Word attachment sent by my college
instructor. I don't have Microsoft Word but I do have
WordPerfect and Word Pad. (.rtf file...right?) Each time
I try to open the attachment from home, I am
automatically logged out of the college network site.
The tech support at the college says maybe it's because
I'm using MSN internet browser. ???????I have no clue.
How can I open these attachments from home?

Either open them in Word Perfect, if WP has the appropriate converter, or
download the MS Word viewer program from the Microsoft site. To open in WP,
try first saving the document to your hard drive, starting the WP program,
and then using the program's menus to open it.
