I may be wrong, but I believe that the default in Office XP is
to force Office docs to do a search for an installed virus
scanner, and this behavior is based on VBA. Does anyone have any
information on how to turn this "feature" off?

Thanks.

Hi Bob,

If you are running Norton antivirus, go into the Options dialog, and find
the "Enable Office add-in" item, and uncheck it.

This will not in any way reduce your anti-virus protection, and will speed
up opening files.
