I want to be able to use a Word document or template as a standalone
front-end to an Access table. I want to set it up so a user would download
the Word document from a public web server, fill out the form and then email
it back. Once I receive it, I want to be able to transfer the ‘data’ to an
Access table. Can this be done and how?

Yes.

All you need to do is create/get an Access object within the Word VBA code,
then Word can control/communicate with Access directly.
