I have tried about everything I can think of to change what Add-Ins are
loaded through Normal on my computer, but to no avail.  It doesn't matter
how many times I use the Add-In manager and change the check boxes, every
time I open a document it's back to the way I *don't* want it to be!  Any
suggestions are welcome.

The Tools > Templates and Add-Ins dialog gives you the settings for the
current Word session. If you add something there, it will still be there
next time you start Word, just unchecked. To make it work, you need to move
.dot Add-Ins in or out of your Word startup folder. See
http://addbalance.com/word/movetotemplate.htm  and
http://addbalance.com/usersguide/templates.htm.

That was it!  Thank you, Charles.  I've been fighting that for weeks!
Forgot all about the Start folder . . .
