Equation Editor does not work with Word. It works with Power Point but
not Word. This is a new computer bought from Dell with Office Small
Business Edition 2003 preinstalled. If I try to insert an equation in a
Word document, the Editor itself opens, but the equations that are
written don't appear in the Word document (File| Update does nothing).
What appears is { EMBED Equation.3 }. Similarly, if I open a previously
made Word document with equations in it, I get { EMBED Equation.3 } or
something like that, instead of the equations. I tried uninstalling and
reinstalling Office Small Business Edition; no change. And I tried
installing Equation Editor using Control Panel| Add or Remove Programs|
Office| Add or Remove features| Chose Advanced customization of...|
Office Tools| Equation Editor. But even though I was told the
installation was successful, it wasn't.
A person at Dell customer support said I need to Restore to the
configuration I had when I received the computer. I'm reluctant to do
this because I spent a lot of time, before discovering the Equation
Editor problem, installing things and getting my environment just as I
like it. I don't want to lose what I have done.
Any ideas?

Ignore the Dell support idiot.
