Embedded Spreadsheets

Hello,
I have several documents that have excel spreadsheets embedded in them.
The problem I am having is that for some reason after the spreadsheets are
accessed, they become corrupt and can not be accessed.
I can not figure out what is causing the spreadsheets to get corrupted....

Any help or thoughts on this would be appreciated.

thanks

Which version of Word do you have?

What message are you getting that makes you think they're corrupt?

If you boot Windows in SAFE MODE, so that things like anti-virus plug-ins and
management software is disabled, do they behave correctly?

The message says that the file has been corrupted.  After you hit OK, you
cannot get back into the srpeadsheet object to edit it.  We have used them
this way for several years without this much problem.  They would
occasionally get this corruption problem, but not as much as they have
lately. The only thing I did differently was to position them with a tight
wrap and center the object on the page. Last time they were In line with
text.

No, we haven't tried booted to Windows Safe Mode yet.

Thanks.

OK, if Safe Mode doesn't make any difference (after reading this, I don't
expect it would), then go back to inserting them in-line with the text. Put
them in a Table, or a Frame (from the Forms toolbar) in order to get the
positioning and text-flow. See if that helps settle things down.

If it doesn't, then you may be looking at some kind of problem occurring when
the Word document is saved. A bad network connection, for example.

Thanks for the help. I am realigning them to In Line with text. I tried
inserting a frame as you said, but it seems to override it when I bring in
the object. I have tried it both ways: Copy and Paste Special as an embedded
Excel Object and Insert, Object from file.  I prefer to use the Insert,
Object from file option, but it seems to make the spreadsheet too small and
brings in more of a right margin than I like.

After you've formatted it as in-line, you should be able to move it into the
frame so that you get text-wrap capability.

Some versions of Word default to in-line, others to text wrap, and in 2003 you
can choose your default.

Both approaches give you the same end result (as far as what Word is storing),
so use the one the works best for you.
