Word2003 doesn't save normal.dot anymore

Hi,

In a 'normal' Word environment when I change something that affects
normal.dot - adding a menubar, change a profile- I got the question "Do you
want to save the changes in normal.dot". I do have ticked the option in
Tools, Options, Save, "Ask the user if normal.dot has to be saved".

In my situation Word doesn't ask me nothing. The changes aren't saved etc. I
now have explecitly has to open normal.dot and make the changes literal in
de normal.dot file.

Normal.dot isn't read-only, I have all rights to access normal.dot.

I have done the next thing to overcome this problem:

De-install Office 2003
Re-install Office 2003

It didn't help.

Does someone have idea what's wrong?

If you have Adobe Acrobat 7, see the last section of
http://www.gmayor.com/lose_that_adobe_acrobat_toolbar.htm. In the meantime,
try holding the Shift key while you select File > Save All.

Jay, I think that will do the job. I installed indeed Adobe Acrobat 7.

After reading, I think I trow these Adobe crap in the dustbin. I had
problems with Adobe macro's before. The people of Adobe can't program decent
macro's.

After confronting the same issue, I checked on Adobe Web site
http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/330984.html.

Applying exactly what they advise to do to get Acrobat to show up in
Word 03 *BUT* with this slight change in the command line (/u):
[regsvr32 /u "C:\your path\PDFMOfficeAddin.dll"]
will unregister the dll file and should do the trick. Note that on their
web site, they forgot to add the name of the dll at the end of the
command line ...

I cannot test my own solution right now since I have solved the problem
an other way but would love to hear about anyone try it.

Jay,

I visited Adobes site and there is no 'decent' contact entry. So I found
some peephole in there contact barrier and made my point of displeasure. I
don't like this Kolonial Emperor behaviour.
