We recently converted some of our users to Word 2003. The lady that does our
small school's Web Page typically saves some Word documents (like the class
schedule which is in tables) as HTML and imports them into a blank page in
Front Page 2000. This seemed to work with Word 2000 but when she does it in
Word 2003 it oversizes the tables and generally loses formatting. When I
look at the HTML page it seems to have automatically added a ton of
additional instructions. I'm not very knowledgeable about HTML but it's
clear that a lot of information is being added on.
Can anyone offer advice on how to solve this problem.
Thanks
SGF

SGF,
After some reasonable hours, nobody has offered assistance.
You should take note of the following:
1) I do not have Word 2003
2) The largest error that a Word user can make is copying and pasting from
Word into FrontPage or any other web software.
a) a better method is to copy and paste from Word to NotePad and then from
NotePad to FP or another software. Granted you lose formatting, however the
formatting carry over from Word causes severe compatibility problems anyway.
3) I do have IE6, Netscape 6.2, Mozilla Firebird and a WEB-TV browsers all
installed to assure reasonable compatibility.
The possibilities are endless for you problem.
Perhaps if you provide a URL (in which the html may be viewed) than a
solution might be more specific any helpful?

Hi SGF,
FrontPage 2000's clipboard capability for HTML didn't
mesh well with those of Word 2000 or higher. FP2002
and FP2003 are more compatible.
In Word 2003, using File=>Save as Web Page, Filtered,
rather than File=>Save as Web Page will produce a more
filtered HTML file, but the original should be kept in
a .DOC file form for updating within Word.
The settings for browser compatability, target screen
resolution, etc in Word 2003 under
Tools=>Options=>General=>Web Options can also
affect what is placed in the HTML file as can some
of the settings in the table features as far as fixed
vs. relative sizes of table elements.
