Plese ignore the previous message it was an inadvertent
hit of the Enter key.
Here is the problem.
I have ME, 256 RAM, IE6, Mediaplayer 9, cable connection.
I create a file FILENAME.DOC using Word 2k. I embed in the
file equations created with Equation editor. Now I save
the file as FILENAME.HTML from Word. A new file
FILENAME.HTM and a folder FILENAME.files are created. In
the folder I have one file IMAGE00#.WMZ for every file
IMAGE00#.GIF where the gif file is the image of the
equation in Word document. I do not know when this started
to happen. I just discovered it this mornint, Sunday 12/7.
When I run the FILENAME.HTL, the internet explorer opens
normally and without the slightest hint about the wmz
files. If I click on the wmz file, the mediaplay player
open and shows IMAGE00#.WMZ in the right pan. If I click
the button Play on the mediaplayer, the MP attempts to go
to the internet and I get a dialog box asking me if I want
to save the file or open it. I immediately halt the
operation.
I checked for virus (I rarely get one) and found the same
virus file in two copies in System directory. Fthe file
name was PE_BUGBAR.B (there may be an underscore or not I
couldn't tell). I deleted the two files, restored the
system to the lates date I have and recreted the Word file
with equations. The same thing, the files .wmz are still
there, but now I have no virus.
I created a doc file and embedded in it jpg files, and
created objects using Draw of Word, no wmz were created in
the html file. The wmz files are creted with the equations
embeded only.
I uninstalled Office, cleaned all directories related to
office, then reinstalled from scratch. The problem
persisted. I deleted media player manually and reinstalled
a new version (9), the propblem persisted. New updates for
windows did not cure problem either.
any thought what mihgt be the cause of creating the wmz
files and embedding them in the html folder? I run out of
ideas as to what to do.
Thanks.

Hi John,
This is a case where it appears that one part of
MS wasn't communicating with another one when this
first occured :) Office had the .WMZ (zip/compressed
WMF/EMPgraphic) format extension for preserving, for 'roundtripping'
(the ability to reopen a Word created .HTM file back
into a complete .doc file. WMF/EMF vector files are
not commonly used on the internet so Word preserves
the content for later re-conversion to a .DOC file,
but uses an extension that the browser wouldn't normally
be expected to encounter.
The Windows Media folks used the same .WMZ name for
the revised Windows Media Player compressed files.
