ReOpen the original Word Doc you created. NOT the HTML page.
Although it appears to me (a good possibility,) that when you saved the html
page as a Word doc that you over-wrote your original page.
In that event (unless you backed the doc up someplace,) the original is
lost and can only be recreated. :-(:-(:-(
BTW, you'll NEVER get pure and/or clean html with either the Word HTML
filter or even FrontPage's HTML filter (which does a much better job than
Word.)
The only way to get pure html is to create your own html and then validate
the html with a validation checker.
IE accepts plenty of erroneous code (non-compliant) and delivers pages in
spite of the errors. Netscape is more strict in its adherence to code.
The fault is not with Netscape, rather MS sloppiness in the creation of IE.
As a result webmasters are currently required to create a multitude of
"hacks" to circumvent "proper code" to work as they desire with IE :-(

Unfortunately, I do not have the original Word document. Best I can do is
right-click on the HTML file, choose Edit, and then, when the file is
loaded, save it as a Word document. There's gotta be a way to break the
dependency between the Word document and the image directory. I have posted
my question in the docmanagement group. Wish me luck.

Thought I should let you know the answer:
Open the Word doc (with the links pointing to the image directory).
Edit > Links > highlight all pictures > Save Picture In Document > Update
Now.
-or-
Shift+Ctrl+F9 for each individual image.

Thanks.
Saw your response in the Word NG (micrsoft.public.word.docmanagement ) and
sent you a tongue-in-cheek there.
