I just installed Word 2003 and have a question about how the MHTML file
format relates to saving files as HTM. I tried importing a Word files saved
as *.mht into FrontPage and then opening them with FrontPage with no luck. I
guess I'm just not understanding where exactly you use the MHTML format if
you cannot publish these files to a Web site. Do you first save a Web page
that has a frameset, theme, and graphics for example into the *.mht format
to avoid the file folder creation that usually accompanies a frameset and
theme and then open the *mht file and then save again as htm? I'm lost. All
help is greatly appreciated.

Hi Arlene

As far as I know, the MHTML file format exists to save a web page and
all its component bits (eg pictures, style sheets) into one big file so
that it can be viewed. For example, if you found a page on a web site
that you wanted to save for future reference, you could save it as an
MHTML file.

But only Internet Explorer can view an MHTML file. Netscape, Mozilla etc
can't recognize the file format.

I am not aware of any purpose in editing an MHTML file or publishing an
MHTML file to a web server.

Hope this helps.

Thank you, Shauna. I read up in Word 2003 books on the topic, and they seem
to recommend using them for sending email in html format more than anything
else. I wasn't even aware of this format as a Save As choice in the browser.
Thank you for that. It is very helpful information.
