Saving a Word document to Html format

I updated from Office 97 to Office XP.  Before when I
saved a Word doc to html, it didn't put any style sheet
info in which is the way I want it.  Now, with XP, it
enters all sorts of stylesheet codes that I DO NOT WANT.
Is there a way to have it not do this?

Thanks

Your reference to CSS threw me off.
Your referring to WORD BLOAT.

The mso's are tab settings inserted into the html to provide
the option of returning the web page to it's design format in Word.
They have no useful purpose in web pages except to damage the name of Front
Page and discredit both MS and users of both Word and FP.

Here's a link to download a add in which removes the "bloat."
http://office.microsoft.com/downloads/2000/Msohtmf2.aspx

In addition, here's a link (which may be broken, requiring copy and pasting)
in which a search at Google Groups Archives of this forum provide related
mails back to May of 2003

I downloaded the filter you suggested and installed it;
it's instrux say to then open Word and the particular
document and then under File, select Export to Compact
html.

I have do this and launched Word and there is no
File/Export???

Anna Sue,
Did you try Bob Buckland's suggestions (below?)

I do not use Word to create web pages.
It was never intended for that (with some excpetions) and Word does a poor
job of creating compliant pages.

I use a software similar to NotePad which is entirely unimagineable to you.

Hi Anna Sue,

The add-in from Office 2000 isn't supported in Word 2002 or 2003.  Similar functionallity comes from File=>Save as Web Page-Filtered
in those versions rather than the 'export to Compact HTML'.

Hi Anna Sue,

In Word 2002 (XP) and Word 2003 you can use the
File=>Save as Web Page-Filtered option to reduce the amount of style information stored with the web document, but the add-in that
Word 6 thru 98 (v8) used was replaced with native (built in) Word features starting with Word 2000 to add handling for complex
tables and for making 'roundtripping' (Word to web to Word documents) possible with no knowledge needed other than 'save as'.  The
web features were focused on that use rather than as a replacement for MS Office FrontPage as a targeted app for web page creation.

The settings in Tools=>Options=>General=>[Web Options] can influence what is included in the File=>Save as Web Page-Filtered .HTM
content, for example, choosing an older version browser will reduce some of the extra content.  You can also hand edit the source
code through Tools=>Macro=>Script (source) Editor if you have installed that optional MS Office/Word feature.
