when I type html code in microsoft word office 2000 and
request the option of web page preview, all I get is the
html itself.  I cannot recieve the internet web version of
the code.  It opens up explorer but nothing changes.  I
know the code is correct.  I tried a simple text only 3
line web page. I called comcast broadband and was sent to
Microsoft.  The usual runaround.   Please help!

Emma,
You call Comcast when you car breaks down? SORRY couldn't
resist.

I'm the local troll here. Although I do at times provide assistance after
climbing down off my soapbox.

<soapbox> First and foremost, it's difficult for me to imagine why any
person would use Word for creating web pages, even harder for me imagine a
valid reason for using Word to edit html. Word has very limited use as far
as creating web pages is concerned and IMO that application of Word should
be avoided at any means. Furthermore why a user would desire to use Word to
view web pages is beyond my own comprehension skills</soapbox>

The reason you page is not working is because you have saved it as either a
Word Doc or a text file. NOT and html web page.

I have no clue if the following works in Word. Nor am I inclined to explore
that possibility for your benefit :-(

It works in Notepad and WordPad and most other software's.
Before saving the html!
Enclose the entire name in parentheses EX;

"mypage.html" including the parentheses and then save the file.
When you open the page with your internet browser it will view as a web
page.

Whether the newly created html page will view in Word as a web page, I have
no desire to determine for you or anybody else. It is NOT what Word was
intended to be used for.

Hi Emma,

If you have opened the document in Word as HTML source then that's what previews as well.  If you open it as a Word or Word web
document and use File=>Web Page preview, you'll see the 'result' in the browser.  Word has (an optional install) HTML/script editor
that can be useful.  You can switch to it from View=>Source in a Word web (saved as .htm) document or go through Tools=>Macro to get
to the 'Script' (source code) editor within Word.
