using ftp syntax that i found someplace i can goto a site and combine the
username & password like this

ftp://username:password@sitename/publicfolder

i have found if i put a word .doc in my publicfolder that if i open word,
goto the 'open' dialogue and in the filename line i put

ftp://username:password@sitename/publicfolder/publicfile.doc

then word will open the document simultaneously passing to the ms ftp
handler the username & password

my question is how can i create a link that will open word, put it in
file|open mode and stuff my ftp path in it.

something like

open:word;open:file;ftp://username:password@sitename/publicfolder/publicfile
.doc

i'm sure thats not the correct syntax but thats what i would like to do as
one long statement.

is this possible?

thanks.

jim

it was so simple i realized it myself.

my > ftp://username:password@sitename/publicfolder/publicfile.doc link does
just what i want.  when i click it i get a dialogue warning me this could be
harmful & do i really want to open or save it.  when i click open, then word
opens & grabs my docfile.
