I have a web page that I am creating through MS-Word (XP), and I want the
frames that I am creating to be a static size regardless of the window size.
When the window resizes in word and IE, the frames resize with them.  Does
anyone know how to set a frame to a fixed size that will not resize when the
window resizes?  Thanks,  Marc

Hi Marc,

When doing this within Word it's going to depend on what you
mean about limiting a resize on whether it's doable from the
Word interface.

If you're building a frames page from Format=>Frames then
when you have the Frames toolbar click on the 'Properties'
icon while your cursor is in the frame you want to set a
size for and (a) set the width in terms of inches/cm etc
rather than the default percentage and then (b) in that
Properties dialog go to the Borders tab and uncheck the
[  ] Frame is Resizable in Browser control.

If the size of the Window in the browser becomes less than
the size of the 'don't shrink' frame, it will then shrink
but other wise it should hold it's width.

If I wish to have the frame size remain without shrinking even if the
browser becomes less then the size of the 'don't shrink' frame, is this
doable?

Define your FRAMESET in PIXELS
http://www.htmlhelp.com/reference/html40/frames/frameset.html
this page has many sub-links to provide explanation and depth to what I have
below.

The example on this page give percentages in the COLS and ROWS
use pixels instead.
I have no clue as to you frameset layout?
If two cols and you desire an overall 640 than you split the pixel sizes to
LESS than the overall size, POSSIBLY due to the cell spacing that has been
defined in the frames.
Your going to need to play with this, till you find an effective solution
to what you desire.
<FRAMESET ROWS="480" COLS="200,440">

It may or may not work. My experience with frames is very limited.
Overall they are not advisable due to how easy it is to view the individual
frame pages out of the design you intend (at least for the knowing.)
For those "not in the know" they find it most difficult to bookmark and
individual page are in most instances are required to re-navigate your entry
page.

Hi Marc,

When you uncheck the [x] Resize Frames in Browser property
setting what you're disabling is the ability of the user to
drag the divider between the frames to make one relatively
wider than another frame.
the other.

The user still has the ability to resize their browser
window as they do other windows in Windows and the frame/page
will resize.

You may be able to use fixed width tables within a frame or
replace the use of frames with tables in a single page to
get closer to what you're looking for from within Word.
Issues though with fixed width tables can include the problem
that what looks okay in one screen resolution can look rather
'unfinished' in another.
