Bug when opening word docs from web

Hi there,

i have encountered a bug(?) when opening word-docs with
hyperlinks.
The doc must open with Word itself and not the browser-
extension via file access(file://...) and not http.
On some clients it´ll be open as local copy without the
option to save it at the original place (server).
A similar bug is documentated but seems to be fixed:
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=810907
I have installed all Service-Packs but the problem still
exists.
The problem is easy to reproduce:
testlink
Browsersetting: open docs in new window

Thx very much

Hi Tim,

Can you provide some additional information to
clarify your scenario?

If the situation you are encountering is the one
described in
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=810907
then it's a Windows XP item rather than a Word issue
that has a hotfix available (no charge) by telephone
contact with MS as shown in the article.

Is your sample link going to a book mark in a
Word document (s/b #Testlink rather than >Testlink
shown in your example) from another Word document
or a non-Word produced web page to a Word document
bookmark?

What version of Word is being used.

You mentioned a server issue. Your sample shows a local
hard drive file.

Office 2003 Editions explained

Hello,
first thank you for your fast answer.
The problem is not a xp-specific problem because it
occurs on several configurations (f.e. win2000 Sp4,
Office2000 Sp3/ XP Sp2,off.2003 Sp 1).
I thought it could be in relation with smb-signatures but
the following link describes my problem better:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-
US;249301

I dont use bookmarks and i dont think thats a server
issue because it appears on the local system, too.
It can be reproduced on some machines as easy as you can
create a hyperlink.
As i mentioned the problem appears on several
configurations and the Word version seems not to be
important.
Regards,
Tim

Hi Mike,

That issue was seen in the original release of
Word 2000 but was as the article you listed mentioned,
fixed in Service Release 1 to Office 2000.

What are the exact steps you're using to create
the hyperlinks and how are you opening the documents?

Do you have the same result on the local hard drive in
various folders?
