Word2003 is a new world record in bloatware
These "useful xml-features" totally prevent me from doing the simplest
editing to actual xml-file!!!
I'm so mad I could actually go and beat some sense into those
Redmond-dumb-heads!!
...And I live on the other side of the globe!!

Aaargh... - I just can't believe i paid some hard earned money for this
piece of crap software!!!

So tell me please:
How do I get rid of the XML-formatting and view .xml as TEXT ??

thanks, Jussi

now breathing slowly, really trying to find some peace of mind...;)

ok...
rename to .txt
open in notepad
remove the xml-header on the first line
save
open in word
do whatever
save
open in notepad
put back the header
save

phew...
hard time...
fighting off "the features"...

Hi Jussi,

If you check "Confirm conversion at Open" in "Tools > Options > General",
that should do the trick, too.

A checkbox on the "File > Open" dialog for that option would make more
sense than hiding it with "General" options...

So WHY can I open a webpage in the IE and then select "edit in Word" and it
opens up fine yesterday...  BUT today when I do the EXACT same thing I get
all the HTML code crap instead???
