I have an invoice template that I created a hyperlink to and I want to post
the page on the intranet so when people click on the link they can fill out
the template - problem is right now it appears like they are modifying the
original - what did I do wrong?

Hi Erika,

You can link to a shortcut that in turn links to the
template. That will then open a new document based on
the template rather than the template itself.  The steps
are in this article.
