I am making a web page in Word 2000 with WXP.
I am having problems importing a jpg file. I do a insert/picture/from file.
I drop down the location choices and find the server as an ftp site where
the file is stored and I link to the file. Word then asks me what format do
I want to convert it from. Whatever I chose I get an error "An error ocurred
while importing this file." and the file name is listed.
Seems like I've done it this way before but it doesn't work now.
any ideas would be appreciated (such as is there a better way to make a web
page?)
thanks; Kozmo

In this instance, your NOT attempting to import a file at all.
Rather, your making an attempt to directly deep-link to another website
(regardless of ftp or http.)
In effect, your attempting to steal another wesbites bandwidth. In most
instances, a violation of your interent providers User Agreement and your
website hosts User Agreement.
Even copying anothers image, without exclusive permission of use,
jeopradizes both aforementioned services.
There are multitudes of free-use images across the internet and with MS
Software's that make grabbing another websites images a bit senseless.

yeah, import, schmimport. Whatever it's called. I realize I'm trying to link
though the error message is "An error ocurred while _importing_ this file."
I also realize there are millions of free pics out there but they aren't the
ones I want. These are my pics that I have loaded to my isp's server and now
want to show in my web page. Nothin wrong with that other than I can't make
it work when I try to either insert or link the photo into the Word doc.

Hopefully, another regular partipant of this NG will come along and point
out to the repetious problems of using Word to create web pages the lack of
users willingness to share what they've learned with other users in this NG.
I wouldn't however hold your breath waiting.
In the mean time?
Open NotePad,
Open your web page,
insert <a href=http://www.mywebsite.com/myfolder/mypicture.jpg>my picture or
any other name your choose</a>
Save file.
Upload page.
