It seems that word does not have a prebuilt function to
modify the hover color of a hyperlink... so I attempted
to modify the code directly to engage the hover style,
but nothing seemed to work.  It seems odd that the hover
property is missing in word.

Any adivse out there?

Hi David,

The HTML abilities in Word are aimed at folks who
create .DOC files and want to convert them to
web doucments with no other learning curve than
File=>Save As=>Web Page.  MS Office FrontPage is
the Office family app targeted for those who are
creating more tailored web pages.

In a Word document Word 'sort of' recognizes that
there is a hover color style, in that the cursor
will flash back and forth from a white arrow to
the Ibar typing cursor when you hover when the page
is opened for editing from the browser but it doesn't
have a built in 'hover' other than for Inserted comments.

You may be able to apply an attached CSS sheet
but I haven't tried it.

David-
Okay - I attended the SFNUTG meeting last night and was
told that REDMOND is now listening so here goes...

It is an unfortunate fact that in the education industry
we have end users that fit Bob's description:
>>The HTML abilities in Word are aimed at folks who
>>create .DOC files and want to convert them to
>>web documents with no other learning curve than
>>File=>Save As=>Web Page.

We have designed our district website so that the person
who manages the "forms" will also be able to support and
update the Website with these forms - (not a new idea but
we keep trying;-}

We can't afford to include FP in our Vol. licensing (and
besides that why give the users a sledge hammer to do the
job of a tack hammer) so the next best thing was to
design a "front end" index page for these users forms
folders that could be updated in Word and simply
converted to HTML for posting.

In the olden days of Word 95 and up to some point of 97-
one could actually either "easily" set up the hyperlink
style for at least the active and visited links within
the Word docs or you could actually code the HTML within
the converted Doc to support your Web site design and it
would "stick" in the Word Doc.

As XML and more robust code became available it was built
into the Word HTML Conversion API regardless of whether
or not one was actually taking advantage of these
features. Of course all of this extra code increased the
size of the files several fold...but memory is now cheap
and supposedly everyone (at least in the US) has access
to DSL or faster lines 8-|

So now we have XP and not only can't I get my rollover
links to work in the Word Docs I can't even get
the "visited" links to format without rollover effects.

Rollover effects working would be nice but, at least give
us back the capability to easily set the style of
hyperlinks both active and visited within the hyperlinks
dialog entry box? We will take simple over complicated.

And no we don't use a separate CCS because we don't want
to limit the supported browser experience so all of our
style code is included in each page.  But unfortunately
even that doesn't even seem to have the ability
to "supercede" the built-in Doc Code.

Having the hyperlink functionality restored and the
addition of the ability to turn off the XML etc code
conversion so that the document converts to pure HTML
would just make my day!

So Thanks for listening REDMOND.
