How do I rename a chart without using VBA?  (Not renaming
the chart title, but the way Excel refers to it e.g., in
ActiveSheet.Shapes("Chart 1").)  Appreciate any help.

I'm sure there is a fix for this, but it is evading me...
I have dates as data points on my "X" axis and when I use those dates to
create my chart, Excel wants to put a range on the axis instead of the
actual data point dates.  Any way around this?
