Excel 2003. After a crash I am unable to open either the original file or the recovered file. When closing excel it notifies separately that each file is open and asks whether to save changes before closing. Other files open and close as expected. Any guidance?

"=Sum(R3:R14)" There are 3 entries in this column but 2+2 =3 every time, adding more entries still 1 short on total. I have checked for hidden columns/rows and there are none.
